These prices are just the starting point

When a clinic says “IVF costs ₹1.2 lakh,” they typically mean the egg retrieval + embryo transfer procedure. Everything below is usually extra.

Medications (Gonal-F, Menopur, Cetrotide, etc.)

₹50,000 – ₹1,00,000

The single biggest hidden cost. Varies by protocol and response.

ICSI (if needed for male factor)

₹20,000 – ₹40,000

Recommended in most IVF cycles now. Many clinics add it by default.

Embryo freezing + annual storage

₹15,000 – ₹25,000/year

Charged per year. If you freeze embryos, this is recurring.

PGT-A genetic testing

₹50,000 – ₹1,00,000+

Per embryo or batch. Not always necessary but commonly recommended.

Monitoring (ultrasounds + blood work)

₹15,000 – ₹30,000

Some clinics include this, many don't. Ask upfront.

Anaesthesia (for egg retrieval)

₹5,000 – ₹15,000

Usually not included in the quoted price.

Total realistic cost per IVF cycle

₹2,50,000 – ₹4,50,000

Including medications, monitoring, ICSI, and freezing. Per cycle. Most couples need 2-3 cycles.

Frequently asked questions

How much does one IVF cycle cost in India?

Based on data from 86 clinics, the base IVF procedure costs ₹70,000–₹2,50,000 depending on city and clinic. Add medications (₹50K–1L), monitoring (₹15K–30K), ICSI (₹20K–40K), and freezing (₹15K–25K), and the realistic total is ₹2.5L–4.5L per cycle.

Which city has the cheapest IVF in India?

Hyderabad and Bangalore tend to have the lowest starting costs (from ₹70,000 base). But "cheapest" isn't always best value — a clinic with higher upfront costs might include more services, have better success rates, or charge less for add-ons. Compare total cost, not just the headline number.

Why is there such a big price range?

Several reasons: premium clinics in metro cities charge more for infrastructure and experienced doctors. Costs also vary by protocol (mild stimulation is cheaper than aggressive), by whether ICSI is needed, and by how many add-ons (PGT, assisted hatching, etc.) are recommended. The biggest variable is medication cost, which depends on your body's response.

Does insurance cover IVF in India?

Most Indian health insurance policies do not cover IVF or fertility treatments. Some employer-sponsored plans may offer partial coverage. A few insurers have started offering fertility riders, but coverage is limited. Always check your specific policy.

How many IVF cycles does it usually take?

On average, patients need 2-3 cycles. Some succeed on the first try, others may need 4-5 or more. This means the real cost of IVF is often 2-3x the per-cycle cost. Factor this into your financial planning.
